Pari Dukovic
Posted by Jerlyn in General, Inspiration, Miscellaneous, Photography, spotlight on May 27, 2009
I am writing spotlights of artists that I admire. Artists, comprising of designers, programmers, etc. Today I am writing about a colleague of mine, Pari Dukovic. He’s my Greek friend from Turkey, yes he grew up there. I always thought he had an awesome name for a photographer.

I did promise myself to purchase the new issue of Time Magazine because my friend Pari Dukovic retouched the cover however I wasn’t able to get around to it as yet. I found it online… so Congratulations Pari!

I know Pari from college and he has taken some past images of me including everyone’s favorite:

I wanted to display some of Pari’s other work, which can also be seen on his site.
He has been working mostly in black and white lately, which is fine because those were always my favorites. I love how he captures passion and emotions and his use of space and patterns. The images always look interesting.

Museum of Natural History

Museum of Natural History
I had a date at the Museum of Natural History. I loved it – well, perfect date for me because I love museums… was his idea so he got cool points.
I learned so many great things about primates, amphibeans and reptiles.
They do an amazing job of recreating scenes of every animal.
Burying my old intuos 3

I hate using a mouse. I loathe using a mouse. I haven’t used one on a daily basis since I was 15 maybe. The first toy I got that changed my design dependencies on a mouse was the Intuos 2 9 x 12. It was a gift from my first employer, John.

intuos 2
It’s not even available anymore. I loved all the shortcuts and I could trace my illustrations by placing them under the sheet attached.
Anyway, since the 9 x 12 was much too large to carry around. I purchased an intuos 3 4 x 6. I loved it!

So my intuos 3 died last week I tweeted it here.
so tonight, my intuos 3 4×5 died.. I reinstalled my intuos 2 9×12 (ancient) and tomorrow I will be getting a intuos 4 *sigh* #fb
As an emergency I used my backup 9 x 12 intuos 2. It was too large for me and seemed impractical to use with my laptop so… I decided to get the brand new intuos 4. It’s amazing.
The first thing that caught my eye was the branding of course, and I always wanted the new one.

What I like about this? Well I can be left handed or right handed. Like ambigrams work it can be used on both sides, well the side you set it up as.
I love the sensitivity, you can set up the buttons as previous versions but this is a lot more sleek in design. “The shape and surface alike have been completely re-engineered to enable ergonomic, consistent strokes, even over long periods of time. (wacom.com)”
I love the speed ring. The pen stand has also doubles as a holder to store the pen nibs. I don’t have the illuminated function because I have the smallest size. Check out more features at the wacom site.
Angels & Demons
Posted by Jerlyn in Miscellaneous, My Life in NYC on May 21, 2009
I saw two movies yesterday. Angels & demons and Terminator salvation. I will be writing about Angels & Demons in this entry.
Let’s start with angels and demons. If you were following, you remembered when I wrote an entry about ambigrams and my sudden interest in them. Ambigrams are words written in a way that they can be read the same way upside down.
Anyway, back to the movie. I was disappointed. Ok yes sure I read the book (and pretty recently at that) I am very aware that movies tend to not truly correlate to their exact story sometimes however as it was credited, “based on the story by Dan Brown” was certainly what it was. However, I felt like the script was completely rewritten and not consolidated like some movies are. Yah I know books tend to be better but c’mon!
A great deal of characters were excluded and if that wasn’t bad enough, the plot changed with their absence. I also wondered whether removal of the plot was to budget an explosion because that was the most fascinating part of the story. Honesty, I should have realized how crappy it was based on the pretty sad previews that preceded it. I should have waited for DVD.
Spoiler in red – do not read this section if you do not want to ruin the movie:
<!--more-->
- Vittoria (Ayelet Zurer) doesn’t have a father at all she has a partner and a research team (c’mon! Seriously it would have been better with the original plot because it would have made sense that the secret of the antimatter was between them and not a team who possibly just signed NDAs to not disclose info about antimatter!)
- When her partner, instead of her father, dies he isn’t branded with the Illuminati symbol
- there is no 5am phone call to Langdon, just a messenger who doesn’t even drive the super cool aircraft! He just uses a regular ass helicopter from Cambridge to the Vatican! (I was looking forward to that the most)
- Vittoria doesn’t get to dress in scantily clad clothing that prevents her entrance to the Vatican like the book says… She doesn’t even scream sexiness like Dan Brown described. She looks super conservative and doesn’t even do the fight scene out of the window like the book said. In fact, she doesn’t even do most of the scenes! She also doesn’t end up with Langdon (Tom Hanks)!
- Langdon doesn’t go up in the helicopter!
- It isn’t clear what the history of the Illuminati was by the movie…
- The Camerlengo Patrick McKenna (Ewan McGregor) isn’t told that his father was actually the dead pope nor does it explain that his mother died in the church.
- The reporters in the original story aren’t even there!
- The ambigrams aren’t apparent. Also, the final ambigram was supposed to be all the previous amibgrams together … and it’s some whack symbol!
Ok, I was disappointed, let’s leave it as that. I wondered whether the story was actually read and WHY did they stray so much away from the original plot!

I haven’t written here in awhile because I am working on a book. Yup I am finally. It’s meant to be funny and I hope that you will fund it or distribute it through PDF nightmare amongst the interweb. The printed version will be most interesting with some actual art.
I have also made my website mobile friendly… Well for the iPhone. I hope you like the skinned version when I am done with that also.
I have been so occupied with projects lately but my social life is thriving again since it’s warmer outside. I like it actually.
By the way if there is one thing I have learned between this entry and the last, is that people you associate with can be very detrimental to your health. Haha I just realized I almost ended up with the absolutely wrong person for myself. Story of my life. I’ve been doing well considering
. Anyway I will try to keep you posted!
I wanted to write something about swine flu but I am less panicky about it now.
