Driveby Updates as Usual
Posted by Jerlyn in General, Illustrations, My Life in NYC on March 30, 2010
So these past days a lot has happened, including my friends trying to convince me to be a comedian since I have crazy, dramatic and hilarious life stories. I’m sure many of you are going through the same. However, I haven’t had much to say because I’m also curious of what to do with this blog. It’s called Design Lady NYC… I haven’t been covering much of the design part. Can I sell you on the idea that it’s my lifestyle design in NYC?
Let’s try that. So from now on, I won’t feel guilty about posting a gossip or two. As some of those past blog entries went. Oh yes, don’t worry I didn’t forget to mention my new job, I’ll do that soon! Well, as soon I have something to demo from it.
In the meantime, I guess I’ll also share a new illustration/digital manipulation etc.
I haven’t done one in awhile and I felt super creative today so I tried another:
Tonight I went to Comix comedy club with Angie from www.bamatobrooklyn.com/ <– who got me addicted to Keith and the Girl Podcast (darn you!).
Pat Dixon and Jesse Joyce were the headliners and the hosts was Keith from Keithandthegirl. By the way, Chemda is like the closest to a celebrity that I’ve ever met (I have to send that in as feedback).
I hope that you all are enjoying your year so far, I still need pranks for April 1st!
Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays from me, Design Lady in NYC.
I did two of these originally for my facebook profile page.
This was the first one.
These were done with Photoshop and Illustrator.
Happy Holidays!
Header illustration

The header is still a work in progress on the site. I figured since I live in NYC and this blog is called Design Lady NYC. It should have something that shows NYC… so I decided to try the skyline.
The headers were made in illustrator and photoshop.
Variable Tee
Posted by Jerlyn in Illustrations, Inspiration on November 4, 2009
I was playing around with illustrator the other day and decided to come up with this concept: I’m variable. Currently this one says Variable. I am looking at different ways to get it printed but this current Women’s V neck Shirt is $23 each if you’re interested
. Oh why not, support the starving artist haha.
This was very refreshing to play with by the way
. I used the same idea on a digsby design for fun:
Here’s another that I did

I got up at 6 am. I was in the office by the time I usually get up. I also had no coffee (haven’t had coffee for 2 weeks).
Our volunteer day took place at the visions vacation camp for the blind. They are actually hiring for the summer so if you’d like to apply you can download forms for employment on their site.
We painted the mural today. Yesterday Rigel and I did the preliminary sketch and today our amazing team colored the illustration.
Click the photo about to check the Flickr PhotoStream of our progress…

It was an amazing team effort!

I had a lot of fun!
Mural Phase 1
Posted by Jerlyn in Illustrations on June 3, 2009
Today we went to sketch the mural – field trip! We went to the camp grounds to do so… to prep the area for our upcoming volunteer day.
My coworker and I decided to free draw the mural instead of projecting it, since we both can illustrate. WONDERFUL idea!
Here’s a brief journey through photos…
We had cab service to the Camp
Obviously this is a real camp
This is where we are going to be sketching the mural…
My co-worker took this side
Wow it’s a good thing he knows how to draw! He free-styled this very well!
So far so good…
The guy at the grounds gave us pizza
Coming together!
Better than we thought!
Messy Madhatter
Drawn by Rigel! Cutest thing!
Drawn by Me… they are dancing
Great Team Effort!
We deserved this!
So weird that this place is only an hour away…It was nice to be out of the city for most of the day.
High Contrast Mural Drawing
Posted by Jerlyn in Illustrations on June 3, 2009
This is what I am sketching out today for volunteer day tomorrow. It’s for a vision impaired camp that’s why the colors are in high contrast. I haven’t used illustrator in awhile so this was a change in my norm: coding or designing.
The team is painting it tomorrow. The cab leaves in a few minutes, it’s currently 9 AM. I’m excited about this field trip! A fellow co-worker, Rigel, will also be helping
. This should be fun!
I will document it by taking photos with my digital camera

New Illustration
Posted by Jerlyn in Illustrations, Tutorials on January 16, 2009
I was working on a new style these past weeks.
It started out with a photograph.

Brittani Smith
I took photos of this model, Brittani Smith and it was retouched from the original.

Illustration
These were final inked sketches that I made from pencil sketches. I printed the photograph first and traced sketches over on tracing paper.

Sketch
I made some vectors and cropped the image to create a silhouette.

This is how it ended up:
