Can’t we all just get along?

This morning, @passionsista (aka the Lucky Gadget Girl) sent me an email with the subject: “Apple Shows Us What HTML5 Can Do.” So I clicked the URL to the URL  on mashable. When I went to the Apple URL what I saw was a HUGE #FAIL!

Ok don’t get me wrong that page is fine, I’m talking about this alert:

Homer Gaines (aka @xirclebox) sums it up correctly:

Dear Apple, please stop calling this a standard if I have to download YOUR Browser for my experience. I wan’t to customize my usage. That’s MY right as a consumer. DO NOT CONTROL THAT!  I’m a Google Chrome user. I’m not going to install Safari just to test out your product. I’d rather FIREFOX. We aren’t stupid. WE know what you’re doing.

I’m also not going to buy an iPad specifically for your web standard experience without flash (if you get flash on it I just might get it). I’m not going to purchase an iPhone (I’m an Android user but I have an iPod Touch, put flash on it!) to call my friends and test out games. I’m not going to learn HTML 5 (I’m learning it though) just for you. Let me guess, since I’m a PC user your demos might not work for me?

You know what: Let’s Get Some Flash On This Bitch Join the Movement.

This entry might have a follow up post*

Dear Apple,

You know how I feel about your company. I don’t hate you, but I don’t love you either. The thing is, the way you’ve treated me a few weeks ago was uncalled for. How do you expect me to ever fall in love with you?

What happened? Well, I dropped my iPod Touch (which I adore by the way – even if I wouldn’t care for the iPhone). It happened one Sunday when I went to church. It was a short drop, basically less than a foot off the floor. The screen cracked.

See, I have photos:

I went to the Apple Store (very conveniently located I must add), and I discussed what happened. DO YOU KNOW WHAT I WAS TOLD? My dear Apple, they said it would cost $199 to get a replacement. $199! You know, like I had it lying around somewhere. I don’t have that type of money.

By sheer luck, I came across photos of Rigel fixing his iPhone by watching a YouTube Video and buying a replacement glass for only $13! This was his results:

So, in great protest of all what your company stands for, I decided to do the same (except the iPod Touch Glass cost $24 – which is $175 less than what it would have cost me).

The kit was delivered to my job. It required a blow dryer and those tools and we got right to work!

Rigel did most of the heavy work since he had experience (however he mentioned that replacing the screen on  the iPod Touch was a lot more difficult than the iPhone).

This is the LCD and screens pulled apart.

This is the finished product.

See Apple, screw you and your attack of my pocketbook! DIY FTW!

I love Amazon. Thanks Rigel!

Hello Hello

Having a coconut jelly

Having a coconut jelly

Hello! I haven’t updated in a long time as  you know. I have been abit busy with all the things happening around the city and deciding my paths on life. I’ve considered many things including becoming a nun and traveling as a missionary all over the world. Sadly to say, I will not be doing this. Instead, I will be giving back to others by supporting charitable organizations near me. I will support cancer organizations by running races (like the Komen Greater NYC race for the cure that I will be running on this upcoming Sunday).

The photo above is from the West Indian Day Parade that I went to yesterday. This weekend, I basically took it easy. I traveled to Connecticut to visit a friend, I wrote things and also decided to be creative and started sewing a wristlet (wallet/purse) pattern for a boutique that I discussed with a friend to start.

Yesterday’s parade was great!

paradeWe went to the parade abit late but I was happy to get Caribbean food and see very colorful costumes. I also had some ideas for next year I really hope that those get pulled through!

In other news… I am getting a new laptop. I had one for 4 years almost… It was 17 inches. The new one will be much smaller and seems like a monster laptop already. I am purchasing a new one because I want to get something to carry to the Adobe Max conference that is super portable. Everyone’s going to ask why i didn’t get a mac (I will give the same excuses) however, I am not getting a mac mostly because of a commercial I saw this morning that had blatant lies about Windows.

(video might not show if you are getting this from a ffeed so please click here for entry)

This in the comment area was worth mentioning:

Being able to upgrade your hardware or even handpick each part is not a problem……PC’s are for people who know what they are doing and mac’s are for those who don’t have a clue.

The laptop I ended up getting cost $1,149.95 (extended price – I actually paid less).
A Mac that’s brand new that comes anywhere close to the spec cost roughly: $1,748.00 (this is without the taxes and such).
