Dreams to be a marathoner
My first race ever was in September of 2008. It was my first time running outdoors. It also was the most difficult run I’d had in my life! Can you believe it? Barely 3 miles. 2008 was actually a tough year for me and getting into running was a perfect distraction and accomplishment. Seriously, what did I expect after only running on the treadmill? It was the Komen Race for the Cure and I came in at 34 minutes. I can run under that time now and a 5K is a breeze these days but I did come a long way. After a few more 5Ks, I did 5 miles, 6 miles, 10K, 10 miles,…
Google Zipper
Well, I can’t exactly rip this code like I hosted pacman but here’s a video of the zipper in case you don’t see it on time: Today Google celebrated Gideon Sundback for his invention of the zipper… He didn’t invent the name however. The first “hookless” design was sold in 1914. Read more random history.
What’s up?
It’s been a month at my new job and I couldn’t be happier. I still haven’t figured out how to write entries while I go about my day but I’ve done so many things that I hadn’t been able to do at my last job. First let’s talk about the 50 plus miles that I’ve been able to log this month so far without dragging myself into the office right after. I sleep better, I’ve lost over 6 lbs, my diet is more deliberate. I’m now a gym rat and I’m in a great mood with my very lovely team. I’m working on an incredible project with a fabulous jr art director and I’m continually…
Cabo en el Estado Libre y Soberano de Baja California Sur
This is a drive by post of Cabo. I hope to post the photos under my Google + account. So visit here for updates. Matt V posted about an awesome Virgin America long haul jetsetter deal last year so I swiped it since it was in my budget as an early gift. It was a Gilt Groupe Deal. It was 3 round trip tickets to any destination 1. I love Virgin America airlines 2. I had reasons to go to the west coast. I used the first one to attend Adobe Max and saved the other two. Total cost: $1205.00. • Seats in Main Cabin Select • Complimentary food and beverage • Five Elevate points for every…
Lemon Squeezerrrrrrrrrr
This is an old post but I wanted to write about it. A couple weeks ago we hiked over 7 miles the week before heading to Cabo. Emily arranged as usual. Sidenote: Emily is pretty amazing at arranging these trips and named us: The Urban Hiking Adventure League of Justice Conquistadors haha. Cliff (who took most of these photos) and I got a large breakfast after I realized that the tickets were going to be about 30 bucks per person. Not wanting to pay that, Emily and her Matt decided that renting a van would be cheaper (it was). We piled into the bus and drove to Harriman State Park. We gathered at the parking lot, did some…
Nonsensical Rants
I’m by no means a writer. I envy those who write. Actually, let me rephrase: I envy those who write well. There’s nothing quite like being pulled into a book of preconceived thoughts and communicating clearly with the reader. Getting those thoughts out of your head and having others “get it.” Thoughts that fester in your mind and you’d rather speak to a peer than a therapist because more than likely most of the population relates — and, it’s cheaper that way. It’s possible that you won’t understand this entry because I’m just blabbering. I realized that I acquired jadersworld.com over a decade ago and one of my passions had in fact been writing. Come…
Off to the next…
… adventure. I’ve had to evaluate my goals yearly at each stage of my career and once again I’m doing it. It might be because I’m a year older. It might be because I’ve been at my job for almost a year or it might be because my values changed. Nonetheless, I still want to make cool shit. I’ve always respected the great mentors in my field and in reflecting on my own career in comparison ensures that I’ll never settle to be devalued or settle for less. I’m so happy to have stuck to that mantra. I’ve done so many cool things these past couple years, I’m proud. I still want to do something…
Climbing 1,215 steps for MS
I did something for Charity on Sunday: The Climb for MS. Something very selfless. Initially I had absolutely no idea of the symptoms that was associated with this disease. I joined because my coworkers all wanted to do it. Before I sent out my URL for donations via my social networks I did some research about the disease and I was in tears. I knew no one personally with this disease and watching videos of people with it and having friends tell me stories about peers who had passed away brought tears to my eyes. I made my donation goal in one day. Thanks to the following people: Charlene, Adam, Emily, Fuze, Samuel and Tony. By the way,…
Another Annual 25!
A year older yes, wiser? Maybe. A year ago I promised myself that I would get the heck out of NYC for my birthday. It came to pass and I did. It was a very cold February last year and after riding a mechanical bull and doing the same happy hour-sports bar theme… I ended up having mixed feelings about how the evening transpired. Although I wish that my friends were on location for my birthday, I couldn’t have asked for a better time than what occurred. I made this birthday about 5 days long, starting on Thursday. On Friday, I went running along the pier with my buddy Francky. We did 3.89 mi on the Frederiksted…
Dialog in the Dark
Dwayne got tickets to Dialog in the Dark (An exhibition at the southside seaport in NYC). It was an experience in complete darkness. After picking up our tickets, Ree (who happens to be from St. croix where I grew up), took our coats and bags and led us into a hallway where she handed us walking sticks and had us watch a video that explained the experience. We were behind another couple whose names we learned later were Kim and Jeff, from Long Island. We were then carried to another room where we saw a short film about the areas of the city that we were going to experience and when it ended, the room…

Hiking
Yesterday I went on a hike arranged by Emily. It was incredible! We walked close to 7 miles. The highest elevation was 520 feet dropping to -12. It was 30 degrees and thankfully it didn’t rain. We went to Palisade interstate park. Initially we missed the first bus (sucked for me because I had only 3 hours of sleep and got a lot of caffeine in my system). The group was pretty good about entertaining each other for the 2 hours we had to wait for the next bus. We got on at 11 am and took the 45 minute trip to one of the entrances. I set my GPS watch and joined the others…
We Become More Digital When We Think Multiscreen
I wrote an article for Convergent Times. I reposted it below (after the image) but check out the original posting here. ————————————— (image from emediatrade) Any designer who works on apps for mobile phones is tasked with an important decision: Which screen size should I propose for the final application? Some quick research reveals that in the United States, less than 5% of mobile screens are 320 pixels and higher. The iPhone is a simple 320 x 480 pixel screen. Most Nokia screens are 240 x 340 pixels, and Blackberry screens are quite interchangeable. But the resolutions just mentioned aren’t the only screens that will need content adjustments as technology evolves. Thinking multiscreen—not only in development,…
