I know, I have been negligent or busy. However it’s for good reasons. Nope, I am not dating as yet ( still very single ) but I have been taking Spanish classes and working on my Android app…
I honestly I do not need to apologize to you dear reader. It’s called having a life and unplugging. I have also been training for a 1/2 marathon. Currently I am at 10 miles which is so amazing to me because only 3 more miles and I’m there! It’s only week 7 (14 more to go). I have a whole back story to this but I’d rather tell you about my Spanish classes.
Yes I should be fluent by now since I took 4 years of Spanish prior. However, I am not. I do have something that prevents me from learning spoken languages and I hope that I get over it. I am already terrible at English itself… Imagine another language and grammar in the mix.
Last weekend I went to barnes and noble and picked up these:
I have also been listening to podcasts: Coffee break Spanish and Discover Spanish. They both have unique teaching and I enjoy them. Coffee Break Spanish is taught by people in Scotland – which was interesting because they taught Castilian Spanish whereas Discover Spanish touched mostly on Latin America. Both have really fun intro songs that make me excited about learning!
I have the Rosetta Stone also.
I even tried changing my language settings in my iPod.
Anyway, I need practice with native speakers so if you’d like to volunteer definitely contact me (you know because Latinos are scarce in New York *yeah right*). I can’t wait to be comfortable speaking because I love most of Latin American and Spanish culture. Yes, both Salsas included!
Necesito practicar mi español todos los dias - hablo y escribo.
Also new: I’m going to be painting more (so feel free to commission).
I’ve bought an easel yesterday and I will be painting most of the sketches that I have been doing on the subway including the micropen inkings.
February is the best month ever. Not because it’s Black History Month or holds Valentines Day, but because my birthday is approaching! In full fling, it will be my annual 25th birthday *wink.* It’s on the 19th, so check the wishlist (by the way I’d like to shout out to Christian and Justin who have been the biggest contributer to my blog, wishlist and even my Charity Breast Cancer awareness races — Justin since I was a freshman in college and Christian for over 4 years. Thanks guys!).
The past few days have been quite eventful and if you noticed, I had a slight hiatus, doesn’t mean that I was avoiding. I’m actually writing a LOVE post about Valentines Day (that hopefully doesn’t appear bitter — it’ll just be my perspective on the day and love. I’ll try to make it an interesting read). Most of the things that I have been doing were actually posted on Design Lady NYC on facebook.
What have I been up to:
I’ve been painting and drawing. I’ve also been redesigning and developing my company’s site. Also a hot project is in the works and I can’t wait to reveal it. First thing’s first: Painting.
I took a trip to Pearl Paint (308 Canal Street, New York, NY 10013-2521) over the weekend and bought some new brushes and acrylic. I had a few extra canvases and I decided to do some quick test work.
Since they are “test” work, these paintings are actually available for sale for quite cheap so contact me to get them (I have nowhere to hang them seeing that I have the space saved for other work).
I will post the details of the paintings abit later and list the prices but here they are:
(By the way you can actually make an offer, I’ll ship anywhere )
We went to Puck Fair (298 Lafayette Street, New York, 10012), I only had a Brooklyn Lager but they had a very nice menu. I met Kate from Random House who was very nice and all the ladies seemed very supportive of the new idea in the works that I shared with them.
After that, Gardenia and I went to a Coach (445 West Broadway, New York, NY 10012) event where we met the Mother and Aunt of the editor of Matchbook Magazine. Now, I have my eye on this hot Coach Poppy Bag. Remember the Coach Poppy Project where my blog came in as number 9 with my #jpoppy tweets?
This bag is $448.00 (tell me that life isn’t fair). It’s hot, bold and so Valentines Day or my birthday worthy! It’s style:16313.
While at the Coach event my landlord texted me that I had a package. I wasn’t really expecting one so I told her I’d be abit late. She said it was ok to stop by before midnight.
Immediately after the Coach event, I walked over to the Bowery Poetry Club (308 Bowery, New York, 10012) where I met with Matthew B. who invited me to Sacapuntas (I’ve always wanted to go).
The Bowery Poetry Club usually have some amazing events. This was my 2nd time there. The first time was in December where I got to see artists life paint and people perform. It was good to see Matthew B, Cole and Patrice. I realized that I’ve known these people now for a year.
When I got home, guess what came for me:
A PSP branded with “Are We There Yet,” given to me by @KloutPerks. Klout measures your influence on social sites. I’m honored to have gotten this. I do miss my old PSP (Still somewhere in my apartment) but this is the PSP 3000. I love the new features and I spent my time downloading free comics yesterday and played Mortal Kombat before I went to bed (at 2am). Thanks Klout!
Isn’t it amazing how social networks make the world seem so small? I think it is. Just a few years ago the internet was much too expensive and webcams were probably unheard of. I forgot where I got my first one but the resolutions were less than today’s camera phones.
I also had a geocities account back in the day (sadly geocities is closing down so I had to backup everything). However, today people expect you to have your own domain. Even if I had jadersworld since I was 15, people were shocked back then since I had a domain. They didn’t know how it worked. How could they get their name as a dotcom.
Anyway that was the simple thought for today.
In Jerlyn business news: I have some paintings to sell and I will be listing them with different posts.
Here’s the first it has two styles that I loved. Based on Jordin Isip and Frida Kahlo. Guess which parts…
This is a merge of style in mixed media. It was painted by me and it’s 15×20 inches. It’s currently listed for $950.00. If you’re interested, let me know. The prints are $90.00 original sized (20×15) framed. $50.00 for the 8 x 10 and $40 for the 5 x 7 print.
I will be painting more happier paintings since this one seems a little dreary.
